Thailand Elected to UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee
PARIS, Nov 28 (TNA) – Thailand is one of the nine new members, elected to the World Heritage Committee during the General Assembly of the States Parties to the World Heritage Convention.
The 193 States Parties to the World Heritage Convention voted for nine vacant seats during the session of the 22nd General Assembly at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on Wednesday.
Thailand won a seat in the quota for Asia-Pacific countries. Committee members’ tenure lasts four years.
Other elected new members to the World Heritage Committee are Egypt, Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria, Oman, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
The World Heritage Committee comprises 21 members.
Thailand had been in the panel for three times and had not been in the committee for six years before the country was elected yesterday. (TNA)
