Thailand determined to promote gender equality
GENEVA, June 5 (TNA) - Thailand will continue to promote gender equality on a steady basis, after the move has borne a good fruit to a certain extent so far.
Thai Labour Minister Police General Adul Sangsingkeo announced the stance at the 107th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILO) in Geneva on May 4 (local time).
The minister stressed that the Thai government has included the gender equality policy in all dimensions of national development so far, covering the protection of women's rights based on the principle of non-discrimination.
"The gender equality policy has been integrated into Thailand's present people-center Constitution and 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2017-2021), as well as the gender equality bill 2015, the women development strategy (2017-2021) and the Thailand 4.0 Policy, under which
innovations are adopted to drive forwards the Thai Kingdom to become a world high-income economy with no one left behind and more equal particiaption of women in the national economic and social development", said the Thai labour minister.
Besides, Thailand has become a signatory of international accords on the promotion of equality and empowerment of women, especially last year's ratification of the ILO Convention No. 111, all of which reflect the Thai government's determination on the empowerment and the integration of women into national development processes equally.
The minister acknowledged that working policies in Thailand have been, thus, modifying quickly, with the economic and social status of Thai women having been clearly improved, observed by the rising number of female executives in both the country's public and private sectors so far.
The minister pointed out, however, that the inclusion of women in the non formal sector and female migrant workers into the formal working system in the Thai economy remains a challenging issue of the Thai government, but the administration is determined to keep working closely with ILO and stakeholders domestically and internationally to further promote the gender equality and benefits for all in the future.(TNA)
