Thailand attends World Heritage Committee meeting

AZERBAIJAN, July 1 (TNA) -- The World Heritage Committee has opened its annual as Thailand has two heritage entries unofficially listed at the World Heritage Centre. The 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee was set at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku from June 30 to July 10. This year the committee will consider the nomination of 35 heritage sites comprising 28 cultural sites, five natural sites and two cultural-natural sites. Besides, 28 sites were proposed to be in the committee’s tentative list. Representing Thailand, Raweewon Bhuridej, secretary-general of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, said that the ensemble of temple ruins namely Prasat Phanom Rung, Prasat Muang Tam and Prasat Plai Bat in Buri Ram province and Sri Thep historical park in Phetchburi province were included in the UNESCO’s tentative world heritage list pending approval from 21 member states of the World Heritage Convention on July 5. Besides, Thailand would nominate the Kaeng Krachan forest complex to the tentative list on July 5 or 6, she said. Azerbaijan proposed the listing of its Atashgah Temple State or the Fire Temple of Baku which features a 4,000-year-old natural eternal flame. (TNA)
