Thai youths ready to take part in SSEAYP

BANGKOK, October 24 (TNA) - Twenty-eight Thai youths have boldly declared their readiness to board the “Fuji Maru” for the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP), which is annually held to foster friendship and greater understanding among ASEAN youths. This year, the 38th SSEAYP 2011, sponsored by the Government of Japan, is scheduled to take place from 25 October to 16 December 2011. From Japan, the “Fuji Maru" will set sail for the first port-of-call in Manila and later to Muara in Brunei Darussalam, Jakarta in Indonesia, Port Klang in Malaysia and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. The Thai youths, who come from diverse backgrounds and represent various regions of Thailand, have come up with a set of performances, themed “Current Thai”, to enlighten their friends from Japan and other nine ASEAN countries, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, about present-day “Thailand”. The show’s highlight, “SSEAYP and the City”, features traditional performances through modern story-telling, aimed to foster an insightful perception of Thailand. The entire show will focus on the nature of Thais instead of the Thai culture so that youth leaders will get to learn more about the Thai thoughts and general interests. Activities during the voyage will also include discussions on social and youth matters, cultural introductions, sports, recreation and club activities. Participants are expected to progress to leadership positions in youth activities once they return home from the program. (TNA)
