Thai police nab scrap collector for repeated acid spray attacks
BANGKOK, June 11 (TNA) - Police from the Suthisarn station in Bangkok brought to a press conference Monday a male scrap dealer who had attacked many pedestrians with acid spray.
The 50-year-old scrap collector, Rachan Teerakitnukul, was arrested at his house on Inthamara 39 Road in Bangkok, where police also seized his tricycle and a bottle of toilet-cleaning fluid used for his over 30 attacks. Thai and foreign victims identified him after the arrest.
Police Major General Khamronwit Thoopkrajang, Acting Metropolitan Police Chief, told the press conference that Rachan had confessed to the attacks, saying he roamed streets and threw powerful chemical drain cleaner from the punctured bottle at many people.
The man claimed that he had attacked other people in retaliation for insults to him as a scrap collector, and that he used the drain cleaner he had picked up from a garbage pile. The scrap collector said that he did over 30 such attacks on the innocent, 10 times in Saphan Khwai area, eight times in Pratunam and Ratchaprasong Intersection, four times at the Victory Monument and five times in Lat Phrao area.
