Thai PM scrapes her trip to Hawaii to attend the APEC Summit

BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday that she has cancelled her trip to the US Hawaii State to attend the 19th APEC Summit from November 12-15, due to her priority on the country’s ongoing flood crisis. Yingluck said before Tuesday’s Cabinet session that she has assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittirat Na Ranong, through the Thai Foreign Ministry, to represent Thailand at the APEC summit on her behalf. The Thai premier scrapped her trip due to the country’s ongoing flood crisis. She said that Thai people are still in need of care, and that everyone needs to be united to overcome the crisis. Nevertheless, Yingluck confirmed her participation in the ASEAN Summit in Bali, Indonesia from November 16-19, saying that the meeting directly concerns ASEAN member countries and it is a short trip. On Monday the Government Spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng said the Thai premier was scheduled to attend the two international forums during which she would take the opportunities to restore investors’ confidence in the wake of flooding in Thailand.
