Thai PM orders tightened security, assures public of safety
BANGKOK, January 16 (TNA) - The Thai government has deployed more security officers to secure public places and prevent untoward incidents.
Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra acknowledged on Monday the finding of bomb precursors in Bangkok's Samut Sakhon Province, saying that she has ordered the military and the police to deploy more officers to secure public places.
The prime minister assured that her government could guarantee public safety and international visitors to Thailand should not be concerned, noting that the Royal Thai Police would hold a press conference on the seized bomb precursors.
However, the Pheu Thai premier said the police's seizure of the bomb precursors this morning does not mean that there will be any violent incident in the country, as authorities concerned have been closely monitoring the national situation and movements and more security officers have been deployed, especially in sensitive public places.
In response to a recent warning from Israel that there would, probably, be a bombing in Thailand before February 12, Premier Yingluck insisted that there had not been such an incident and the concerned authorities have kept on high alert and precautions.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana confirmed that Thai police, the Interpol and the National Security Council have implemented full-scale security measures and can guarantee public safety; so, people should not be worried, noting that there had not been any information the precursors would be involved in any terror attack in Thailand.
