Thai PM believes “Big Bag” can slowdown flooding in Bangkok
BANGKOK, November 6 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Sunday she believes a newly-built “big bag” barrier in northern Bangkok can slowdown floodwaters flowing into the city downtown.
She was referring to the 12-kilometer-long barrier, which is built in northern Bangkok using huge sandbags, and is also believed to help slowdown inflows of upstream water into the capital.
Yingluck also said it is now time to quickly drain out the northern run-off to the sea and that the government will give the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) support in the drainage operations.
The female Thai premier also insisted that the government’s Flood Relief Operations Command (FROC) would not be moved elsewhere although it is now surrounded by floodwaters. (TNA)
