Thai delegation joins ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting in Cambodia

BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) - A Thai top brass delegation is participating in the 6th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) in Cambodia, scheduled for May 28-29. The Thai military delegates attending the two-day ADMM, led by Thai Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat, include Permanent Secreatry for Defence General Satien Permthongin and Director of the Defence Ministry’s Office of Policy and Planning General Ni-pat Thong-lek. The 6th ADMM was set to discuss ways to enhance unity, harmony and security in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Speaking to reporters before his departure Monday morning, the Thai defence minister said that he will also hold bilateral talks with his Indonesian, Myanmar and Malaysian counterparts during his ongoing trip to neighbouring Cambodia. The Thai defence minister insisted, however, that he will not discuss with the Cambodian side regarding last year's Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s temporary demilitarization order around the ancient Preah Vihear Temple along the common border for both Thai and Cambodian troops, reasoning that the issue is not relevant to the meeting.
