Ten International Artists to Exhibit Works at Education City

Doha, March 20 (QNA) Ten Doha-based artists hailing from diverse backgrounds and eight different countries will be exhibiting their work under the aegis of the International Artists Doha (IAD) at their second annual exhibition hosted by Qatar Foundation Community Support. The ten artists will be exhibiting their latest works that deal with wide-ranging themes and styles, from realism to abstract. The artists hail from a variety of countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Egypt, Portugal, Croatia, Australia and the United States. The success of the artist group's one-day art expo last year encourage them to extend this year's event to four days from March 22-25, the IAD said in a media statement Tuesday. HE Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Qatar John Groffen will officially open the exhibition on March 22 at the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre in Education City. The event will be staged at the AaQool Atrium at the Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre in Education City. The artists taking part include: Marjolijn Stolk, Annette Wendling, Jacqui Murry, May Abulela, Pedro Boaventura, Winnifred Bastian, Pip Hoy, Dominika Bozic, Hannelore Seckel and Jesse Payne. The experience in the group ranges from untrained novices with a raw natural talent through to trained professionals who have a proven track record such as Payne who is the assistant professor of art at VCU Qatar. There will be two competitions held on the opening night. A panel of judges has been selected to choose the best paintings. The winners of this competition will be announced on the same night. Also on the night, there will be a People's Choice Award. This is a fabulous opportunity for all exhibition guests to have their say in choosing their favourite artworks. Doors open to the public on March 22 at 16.00 with the official opening at 16.15. The exhibition will also be open March 23 and 24 from 12.00-17.00 hours and March 25 from 10.00-17.00. The IAD was formed in early-2010 by two Dutch artists with over 30 years of professional art experience between them. Their goal was to provide a forum for expatriate artists living in Doha to come together to share ideas and knowledge. In addition, the group aims to support each other in organizing exhibitions that allows the artists to showcase their work to a broader audience. (QNA)
