Taha Commends Qatar's Role in Attaining Peace and Stability in Darfur
Doha, April 06 (QNA) - First Vice President of Sudan Ali Osman Mohamed Taha has commended HH the Emir, the government and the people of Qatar for their efforts to bring about peace and stability to Darfur, stressing that these efforts culminated in today when the final peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement was signed.
The Sudanese vice president extended his thanks to HH the Emir, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for the Council of Ministers Affairs, for their role in today's achievement.
He also thanked all the regional and international partners for their work, which led to the peace agreement signing between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement, stressing the importance of this agreement in enforcing the Doha document for peace in Darfur.
In a speech during the signing ceremony, Taha said that the Doha document for peace in Darfur has already been implemented through the appointment of a regional authority for Darfur and the creation of an executive management as well as the broad participation in governance.
He considered the document as a tool for dialogue and bringing together the people of Darfur, saying conferences attended by all segments of Darfur people were held.
Taha said that his country was looking forward to the international donors conference for reconstruction and development in Darfur due tomorrow in Doha, highlighting its importance as it will see a participation from the international community and their effective contribution along with Sudan in achieving development and reconstruction in Darfur.
