Syrian Opposition Leader: Some Arab Countries Promise to Support Syrian Revolution

Doha, March 31 (QNA) - The Head of the National Coalition for the revolutionary forces and the Syrian opposition Ahmad Mouaz Al-Khatib has praised the outcome of the Arab summit hosted in Doha last week during which the opposition occupied Syria's seat at the Arab League. Al-Khatib noted that he had received promises from some Arab countries to support the revolution and the rebels are waiting for the fulfillment of these promises. In an interview with the Qatari daily (Al Sharq) published Sunday, he revealed some future steps, starting from Doha summit's decisions, including the Arab states' right to arm Syrian rebels, stressing that the Chief of Staff of the Free Syrian Army Gen. Salim Idriss will visit a number of Arab countries to discuss the kind of support that can be offered for the Syrian revolution. He considered the opening of their embassy in Doha as part of restoring the legitimacy to the Syrian people and restoring some of their lost rights, adding that Arab countries had promised in several conferences to help them, but these promises remained pending and the Doha Summit was an opportunity to remind them. Al-Khatib believed that what is needed is to unite the positions in the political side, saying that the agreement between Arab states led to the decision which recognized the Syrian opposition and gave it a seat on the Arab League. Regarding the arming of the Syrian opposition, he said that there are some countries trying to make what they can to help the opposition and there are countries may be hampered by the international resolutions, considering the European position not to arm the opposition is unacceptable. There are balances and certain understandings and some countries are trying to open the way to find a solution to this thorny situation, he said. (QNA)
