Swiss Hostage Arrives in Doha from Yemen

Doha, February 27 (QNA) - The Swiss hostage Sylvia Abrahat who was hijacked in Yemen, arrived in Doha tonight. The Swiss hostage who was kidnaped in March last year, has been released on Wednesday as a result of Qatari mediation. She was received upon arrival at Doha International Airport, via private jet - by HE Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali bin Fahd Al Hajiri and, Swiss non-resident Ambassador to Qatar Martin Echebachr. The Swiss (35 years) - who had been working as a teacher, was snatched from her home in the city of Hodeidah, western Yemen. HE Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs welcomed Ms Sylvia Abrahat in the State of Qatar and wished her a pleasant stay "until she returns to her family." He added : I take this opportunity to thank the Qatari negotiating team who has been working during the past few months silently, and with wisdom and patience until we got to this positive outcome." He also thanked the Yemeni government for its help by giving this opportunity." He also stressed the Qatari -Swiss strong relations .. He said " we enjoy good and solid relations with Switzerland and we thank all for cooperation." For his part, Swiss - non-resident ambassador to Qatar said: We are very pleased with the release of Ms. Sylvia Abrahat and her arrival in Doha .. He extended thanks to the Qatari government for its efforts in this aspect .. He said: "We want to thank everyone who contributed to her release, particularly the Qatari leadership whom we appreciate their efforts and their good offices, especially HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani".(END)
