Suspect held for defaming soldiers, denigrating sect

Manama, Sept. 7 (BNA): The Northern Governorate's Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Salah said the Public Prosecution received a report from the Anti-cybercrime Department informing that an individual had posted several tweets on his account in which he insulted Bahraini soldiers participating in the Saudi Arabia-led Arab Coalition and defamed the martyrs. He also insulted a sect.
The prosecution questioned the suspect and ordered to remand him in custody for seven days pending further investigations after charging him with deliberately disseminating - during a time of war - false information and rumors and sensationalist propaganda that could jeopardize the military operations of the armed forces, a crime punishable by up to ten years in jail. He was also charged with defaming and denigrating a sect.
The investigations are continuing ahead of an urgent trial in a court of law.
