SUDAN WANTS TO SEE TURKEY AS POWERFUL COUNTRY IN MIDDLE EAST, FM SAYS

ANKARA (A.A) - 13.10.2010 - Sudan's Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali Ahmed Karti has said that Sudan wanted to see Turkey as an influential and powerful country in its region and in the Middle East.
Karti, who is in Turkey for talks, told the AA in an exclusive on Wednesday that Turkey and Sudan had historical ties and Turkey had always supported his country in the international arena.
Karti said he had meetings with several ministers and officials of the Turkish government during his formal visit, adding that he was very pleased with the hospitality shown to him.
He also said that he met officials of the Turkish relief organization Red Crescent which he said was doing a very important job in his country.
"Red Crescent helps Sudanese people in Darfur together with other aid organizations," Karti said.
Following his talks in Ankara, Karti will proceed to Istanbul to meet Turkish businessmen on Thursday.
