Strasbourg to host rally on 20th anniversary of Khojaly genocide

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.21 / Trend E. Mehdiyev / A rally dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide will be held in Strasbourg. The Center of Cooperation for Azerbaijanis and Other Turkic Peoples (CCATP) jointly with the Azerbaijani House in Strasbourg plans to hold a rally on the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy on Kleber Place on Feb.25, the State Diaspora Committee told Trend on Tuesday. According to head of the Azerbaijani House in Strasbourg Mustafa Alinca, the permission to hold the rally was granted by the city prefecture and police department. A photo exhibition and an exhibition of books in French and English will be held and 613 balloons will be released in memory of the victims during the rally. The Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. Some 613 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1,000 civilians were disabled during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both.
