Statement by the Mediation on Darfur

Doha, February 10 (QNA) - HE Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for the Council of Ministers Affairs, and H.E. Ms. Aichatou S. Mindaoudou, Acting AU/UN Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, issued the following statement :- In the presence of H.E. Mr. Ahmed Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for the Council of Ministers Affairs, and H.E. Ms. Aichatou S. Mindaoudou, Acting AU/UN Joint Chief Mediator for Darfur, a ceasefire agreement was signed today, Sunday 10 February 2013 in Doha between the delegation of the Government of Sudan led by H.E. Dr. Amin Hassan Omer, Minister of State in the Presidency and Head of the Darfur Follow-up Office, and the Justice and Equality Movement Sudan led by Mr. Mohammad Bashar Ahmed, President of the Justice and Equality Movement Sudan. The Ceasefire enters into force as of 23:59 hours Sudan local time, today Sunday 10 February 2013. The Agreement comes in the framework of the ongoing peace talks between the two parties on the basis of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur and in accordance with the Declaration issued on 24 October 2012 on the cessation of hostilities and commitment to the peace process agreed upon by the two parties on 24 January 2013. The two parties agreed to immediately commence negotiations on the remaining files included the agenda with a view to achieving a comprehensive and final settlement of the conflict in Darfur. (QNA)
