State Minister for Foreign Affairs Participates in Afghanistan Donors Conference

Tokyo, July 08 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah took part in the International Donors Conference on Afghanistan, which kicked off in Tokyo Sunday in presence of representatives from about 80 countries and international organizations. Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are among the participants. Addressing the meeting, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to the government and people of Japan for hosting this important international conference. HE Al-Attiyah underlined that the conference reflects the keen and commitment of the international community to continue support for the Afghan people to face the challenges and establish security, stability and sustainable development. HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs noted that Qatar has always supported the Afghan people, and was among the first countries which provided financial support to Afghanistan under the generous initiative of HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who urged the establishment of a special fund to help the Afghan people. He added that a Qatari committee to help the Afghan people was formed in cooperation with the Qatari charity associations which contributed with more than 40 million Qatari Riyals to build hospital, support the education sector and provide humanitarian aid. Meanwhile, the State of Qatar has been keen to exert every possible effort to build the trust and achieve reconciliation among all political powers in Afghanistan, he noted. Concluding, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs underlined Qatar's commitment to work with the international community to continue provide aid to Afghanistan during the period from 2012 to 2015, and after the year 2016, in order to support development efforts and stability in Afghanistan, with a focus on the advancement of vital sectors, such as education, health and other infrastructure, as well as continue efforts and coordination with other concerned States to build trust and achieve reconciliation among all Afghan political forces.
