Speaker Meets US Ambassador, Stresses The Need To Unite Regional And Int'l Efforts To Fight Terrorism

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA)- House Speaker Salim al-Jubouri stressed the necessity of uniting regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the security and stability of Iraq and the region. A statement by the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives said, "Jubouri met today, US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman, and during the meeting, they reviewed the relations between Iraq and the United States of America, and ways to strengthen them to the benefit of both countries." The two sides also discussed joint coordination in the file of combating terrorism, the file of reconstruction of liberated areas and the return of displaced persons. "Iraq is moving in the next phase to rebuild and rehabilitate its destroyed areas because of the control of the terrorist organization which has contributed to the displacement of millions of people," Jubouri said. He added, "The launch of this file calls for great international efforts and help friendly countries to ensure a speedy and safe return of displaced families to their liberated cities," He called to: "unite regional and international efforts to combat terrorist organizations, which would destabilize the security and stability of Iraq and the region." For his part, Silliman stressed his country's support for Iraq in its war against terrorism and the restoration of stability to its liberated cities through reconstruction and investment, and at all levels./ End
