Speaker highlights environmental culture

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mulla received the Chairperson of the Society of Friends of the Environment, Khawla Al-Mohannadi, stressing the importance of environmental sustainability issues to achieve urban and ecological development as part of the Government Action Plan 2015-2018. Al Mulla stressed the importance of boosting efficient use of strategic energy resources, ensuring urban sustainability and attaining a safe environment that is suitable for the population, emanating from the Council of Representatives keenness on citizens' and environmental health. The Speaker stressed the Council's keenness on spreading the environmental culture and awareness among citizens emanating from collective responsibility, citing the important role of parliament in the activation of monitoring, legislative tools which contribute in the interest of environmental issues. The meeting explored aspects of cooperation between the Council of Representatives and the Society of Friends of the Environment and also explored policies, strategies and means of spreading environmental awareness in the community. The Council of Representatives Speaker also received the Chairman of the Bahrain Technicians Association, Ali Abdullah Al-Maliki, stressing the importance of communication between the legislature and citizens, supporting the needs of professional associations in the community, and considering their aspirations and cooperation with the relevant bodies.
