Spanish FM Meets UNAOC High Representative Al Nasr

Madrid, February 20 (QNA) - Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Wednesday met with the U.N. High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr. During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of enhancing the culture of peace and building bridges of mutual trust and tolerance between the different cultures, religions and civilizations, with the duo stressing the necessity to combat extremism and guarantee freedom of religion. HE Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Nasr reviewed his vision for UNAOC with the Spanish official, along with the most important issues on the agenda of the 5th UNAOC Global Forum, which is set to be held in Vienna on February 27, with the participation of a large number of heads of states and governments, foreign ministers and senior U.N. officials. Talks between the two sides also addressed the aspects of cooperation between the Alliance and U.N. member states, the empowering of UNAOC as an effective diplomatic tool capable of boosting relations among the different peoples through dialogue. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE Al Nasr highlighted the significance of the role UNAOC will play in dispute resolution, especially those emerging or escalating due to cultural differences, pointing to the close link between the Alliance, and preventive diplomacy and mediation.
