Sesi: Conference of Reconstruction and Development of Darfur Aimed at Raising between USD 6 to 7 Billion

Doha, February 05 (QNA) - Head of the Regional Authority in Darfur Dr. Tijani Sese Mohammed announced that the targeted amount of the International Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Darfur in April will aim at raising between USD 6 to 7 billion. Dr. Cisse said in a press conference today at the Sheraton Doha Hotel that he touched through his visits to a number of European and Asian countries and his meetings with senior concerned officials, some governmental and non-governmental organizations, willingness to support the programme of reconstruction and development in Darfur. He explained that his visits to European and Asian countries included Spain, Italy and the European Union headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, the Republic of South Korea, China and Japan, stressing that his visits were successful and positive. Sese noted that similar visits to mobilize support and promotion of the International Conference and the program of re-development and reconstruction in Darfur, will be conducted by Sudanese Investment Minister Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail of GCC states and African countries as well as a European tour other including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States. He reviewed preparations that have been made in Sudan by the government and the authority to prepare for the aforementioned international conference, which began by the Sudanese President decision setting up a national committee to prepare for the conference, noting that the conference document contains 10 projects needing support in the sectors of economy, water, health services, education, agriculture, security and infrastructure. Sese meanwhile noted that preparations administrative arrangement for the conference in Qatar are proceeding satisfactorily. Earlier in the day, HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud announced Tuesday that the International Conference on Reconstruction and Development of Darfur will be held in Doha on April 7 and 8. The announcement came after HE the Deputy Premier met today with Dr. Tijani Sese, Minister of State in the Sudanese Presidency and Head of the Darfur Follow-up Office Dr. Amin Hassan Omer; and the UN-AU Joint Special Representative for Darfur and head of the joint UN-AU peacekeeping mission in the west Sudanese region (UNAMID) Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas.(QNA)
