Second Cargo Plane Carrying Aid to Sudan Flood Victims Leaves Doha

Doha, August 13 (QNA) - In an implementation of sublime directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the second cargo plane carrying aid to Sudan flood victims left Doha Tuesday afternoon. The Qatari Search and Rescue Team of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) is entrusted to transport and deliver the Qatari assistance, using a plane loaded with 25 tons of various relief items and tents. Today's plane, the second of its kind dispatched as part of the State of Qatar's aid to stand with the Sudanese people in their ordeal, brought the total Qatari assistance to 65 tons. The aid's delivery will continue as two more cargo planes are scheduled to depart tomorrow (Wednesday), carrying 15 tons of various relief materials. An assessment to the flood victims needs conducted by the Qatari Search and Rescue Team found that they need more tents, generators, pumps to draw water, in addition to food stuffs. The team transported yesterday (Monday) to Khartoum airport the first cargo plane with 40 tons of relief materials and medicines. The first cargo plane which arrived at dawn in Khartoum was received by Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Dr. Sulieman Abd al Rahman and Sudan's ambassador to Qatar Yasir Khidir, director of Civil Defense Maj. Gen. Hashim Hussein, and acting Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Sudan Jaber Al Nuaimi. Dr. Sulieman Abd al Rahman praised Qatar's support to Sudan, lauding Qatar's quick response to help alleviate the humanitarian situation in Sudan, and it provided the necessary assistance in a timely manner. "I salute Qatar's Emir, government and people for their valuable support for the Sudanese people." Ambassador Yasir Khidir lauded air bridge initiative by the government of Qatar who has been following up with utmost concern Sudan issues, praising Qatar's role in supporting issues of both Arab and Islamic nations. Director of Civil Defense Maj. Gen. Hashim Husien hailed Qatar stances in favor of Sudan adding that "to provide now relief to people affected by rains and floods is a gesture we have accustomed to from Qatar's Emir, government and people". Jaber Al Nuaimi extended his condolences to the families of the victims and to those affected by the rains and floods that engulfed large parts of Sudan, stressing that Qatar will always support Sudan.
