SEC, Maersk Qatar And North Atlantic Sign MoU For Robotics School Program

Doha , April 28 (QNA) - The Supreme Education Council (SEC), Maersk Qatar and North Atlantic University in Qatar signed Sunday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on developing school programs in Qatar related to robotics and robotics Olympiad. HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, who is also the Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), and HE Deputy Managing Director of Maersk Qatar Sheikh Faisal Bin Fahad Al-Thani Sheikh Faisal bin Fahd Al Thani as well as Dean of Information Technology at North Atlantic Qatar Dr. Theodore Chiasson signed the memorandum today. SEC said that the innovative school program, based on Robot Lego Mindstorms, and is available for all schools in Qatar. The MoU states that the program will operate for two years and will provide training for teachers and students alike. The program will include holding robotics competitions and Olympiad, whose winners will participate in the Indonesian Robotics Olympiad. The program looks to nurture a spirit of competition in children, particularly in the field of science and technology. The goal will act as a support to the Qatar National Vision 2030. After the signing, HE Minister of Education Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud expressed his appreciation of the role North Atlantic and Maersk in supporting the education sector. His Excellency said that the MoU will encourage students in taking part in activities related to science and technology. HE the Minister added that the MoU will benefit both students and teachers . HE Al Mahmoud also said that the agreement allows students the valuable opportunity to gain experiences by participating in global events. His Excellency praised the cooperation agreements made between SEC and the private sector in general. for his part, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al Thani expressed his delight with signing a new partnership agreement with SEC. His Excellency added that the agreement will enable students in Qatar to gain a strong experience early on in the field of science and technology. He added that Maersk was keen on the agreement because the organization was keen to support Qatar National Vision 2030. HE Deputy Managing Director of Maersk Qatar noted that 400 students from 65 schools in the robotics program and robotics Olympiad 2012. He hailed last year's program as a resounding success. (QNA)
