SCW issues booklet

Manama, Aug. 19 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has issued a documentary booklet on the "National Report of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the Progress Made in the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action + 20 for 2014". Reflecting the kingdom’s keenness to honour its commitments on providing periodic reports on the progress made regarding the implementation of the Beijing Platform of Action, the National Report was prepared with the participation of relevant sides in the country in order to project the real image that highlights the progress made concerning women’s status at the official and local levels. The National Report includes four parts. The first highlighted the achievements and challenges encountered since 1995 in promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, while the second focused on the progress made in the implementation of critical areas of concern of the Beijing Platform of Action. The third and the fourth parts provided Bahraini women-related data and statistics and highlighted emerging priorities, respectively. It also included a number of recommendations. The national team in charge of the national report on the Beijing Platform of Action had held meetings at the SCW’s headquarters and discussed the necessary report preparing methods. The third of its kind after the 2005 and 2009 ones, the National Report reflects the kingdom’s awareness of the important role played by women, unwavering keenness to ensure the principles equality and equal opportunities, guaranteed by the Constitution and the Law and commitment to all international covenants and agreements in the women advancement field. The SCW affirmed its constant keenness to cooperate with the public and private sectors, as well as the civil society organisations in preparing national reports on women, including the Beijing Platform of Action.
