SCW holds meetings

Manama, May 2 (BNA): The Secretariat-General at the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) held a meeting at Dar Al-Hekma Society for Retirees, as part of its efforts to raise awareness on its role, and the programmes and projects its implementing within the framework of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
Promotional and Awareness Programmes expert at the SCW Huda Salman presented a detailed explanation on the efforts exerted by the SCW, under the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the SCW, to support and empower Bahraini women in all fields and at all levels. She also highlighted the SCW’s role in ensuring the sustainability of the national efforts to advance Bahraini women, and its cooperation and coordination with allies and partners in implementing all aspects of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
Huda Salman also shed light on some SCW’s Bahraini women’s empowerment programmes, mainly the economic one. These include projects such as "Tatweer", "Hospitality", "Tawseel" (Transportation), and fashion design, among others.
Regarding the Political Empowerment Programmes, devoted to supporting Bahraini women to exercise their political role through the existing constitutional channels, she affirmed that it had yielded fruitful result, citing the election of three women to the Council of Representatives, and three other to municipal councils. She also tackled many related issues, such as the Bahraini Women’s Day, the SCW’s development into a national think tank, the SCW’s cooperation with local and international sides, as well as the kingdom’s efforts in following up on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDW).
Abeer Daham, the Head of the Counselling and Guidance at the SCW’s Women Support Centre, also spoke during the meeting. She briefed the audience on the Women’s Support Centre’s objectives of achieving the Bahraini family stability.
Launched in 2004 as a unit to receive complaints, the Women’ Support Centre now provides wide range of services to Bahraini women, noting that it identifies Bahraini women’s needs through the complaints it receives from married and unmarried women, and contributes to resolving them through the available mechanisms.
The SCW paid a similar visit to the "Read and Progress" Centre in Hamad Town. Member of the Women’s Support Centre Awhaj Al-Mannai, and member of Youth Committee Aisha Eid staged a video presentation on the SCW’s duties, and the mechanisms to implement the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
