Saudi Arabia Appoints Two Ambassadors In Lebanon And Iraq
BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - Saudi Arabia has announced the appointment of two new ambassadors to Lebanon and Iraq, more than a year after the vacancy.
"The new ambassadors appointed to Iraq and Lebanon have taken the oath before Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz in his office at Al Yamamah Palace in Riyadh," SPA said.
The new ambassador of the Kingdom to Iraq is Abdul Aziz bin Khaled Al-Shammari and its ambassador to Lebanon is Walid bin Mohammed Al-Yaqoub.
The appointment of the kingdom's ambassador to Iraqi comes after the post being vacant 13 months ago, at a time when relations are improving significantly between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The new Saudi ambassador to Iraq served as acting embassy in Baghdad from October 2016, replacing Ambassador Thamer al-Sobhan.
Relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia have improved in recent months after decades of tension between the two countries following the invasion of Kuwait by the former Iraqi regime in the early 1990s./ End
