QRC Allocates QR 750 Thousand for Surgeries for Syrians in Lebanon

Doha, July 15 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) announced the allocation of QR 750 thousand to cover the cost of surgical operations for wounded Syrians in Lebanon. QRCS said in a press statement that the allocation of this amount comes within the QR 5 million budget, announced previously, for covering the cost of surgical operations for wounded Syrians in both Lebanon and Jordan, especially since there are large numbers of wounded and the majority of cases are characterized as critical and need urgent surgical interference. The statement also said that QRCS donated QR 230 thousand for the ICRC relief appeal in Syria at a time when the ICRC and the Syrian Red Crescent are only two organizations able to operate in the areas affected by the ongoing violence. The move comes as a part of QRCS's efforts to help alleviating the suffering of those affected by the events, that after donating two ambulance cars to the Syrian Red Crescent in Homs and Idlib, QRCS supported Lebanese Red Crescent by developing the blood bank services in Tripoli, and working currently with Jordanian Red Crescent to cover the cost of surgical operations in Jordan. The Qatari Red Crescent denounced, in its press release, targeting ambulance teams and arresting the Syrian Red Crescent volunteers and killing five of them during performing their humanitarian duties despite the Red Crescent emblem, stressing the importance of respecting the international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. Qatar Red Crescent had signed agreements with several parties in Lebanon and Jordan on performing surgical operations urgently in Lebanese and Jordanian hospitals with a budget of QR 5 million.
