QMA Gallery Hosts Louise Bourgeois Expo Next Friday

Doha, January 15 (QNA) - Qatar Musuems Authority (QMA) Gallery at Katara will host next Friday, January 20- June1, the first solo exhibition for Bourgeois in the region, titled Louise Bourgeois: Conscious and Unconscious . Philip Larratt-Smith will be the curator of the exhibition which will feature works of contemporary art by Bourgeois from 1947 till 2009 and would expose visitors to themes of motherhood, identity, memory and the cycles of life. Louise Bourgeois was a renowned French-American artist and sculptor, best known for her contributions to both modern and contemporary art, and for her spider structures, titled Maman, which resulted in her being nicknamed the Spiderwoman. 2 She is recognized today as the founder of confessional art.
