Qatargas Promotes Water and Energy Conservation at QP Environment Fair
Doha, April 14 (QNA) - Clean Energy for a Sustainable World is the message Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG producer, is supporting as part of a campaign to highlight the importance of water and energy saving and recycling at this year’s Qatar Petroleum Environment Fair, being held from 14 - 16 April at the Doha International Exhibition Centre under the patronage of HE Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry.
A Qatargas press release, issued today, said the Qatargas pavilion at the Fair provides visitors with useful tips on the rational use of water and energy at home and features interactive activities for children aiming to become energy, water saving and recycling ambassadors.
Commenting on Qatargas participation in the Fair, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer states that Qatargas is committed to demonstrating the highest standards of social and environmental practice at all of its facilities, and is very proud to participate in QP Environment Fair 2013. Qatargas pavilion at this years Fair is designed to highlight the importance of responsible water and energy use and its conservation for the future generations.
He added that "at Qatargas, improving our operations to minimize environmental impact remains a top priority. Therefore, we are committed to meet or exceed the most stringent government regulatory standards and promote environmentally-friendly practices. In demonstrating this, we have recently received the prestigious "Award for Excellence in Flaring Reduction" by the World Bank led Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR). At Qatargas, we believe that sustaining our environment is an obligation we owe to our future generations."
Qatargas is also showcasing its extensive emissions reduction initiatives, including its Flare Reduction Program, the Jetty Boil-off Gas (JBOG) project, its Greenhouse Gas Management Strategy and Wastewater Reduction and Management Strategy. An interactive model showcasing the JBOG project is on display highlighting how Qatargas will reduce flaring at the LNG jetties by over 90% during the LNG ship loading process. These projects outline steps the company is taking to reduce its carbon footprint through a combination of operating excellence and environmental performance enhancements to responsibly utilize Qatars natural resources and ensure alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030 on sustainable development.
Randy Stadler, Qatargas Chief Safety, Environment and Quality Officer said: "The message we would like to communicate through our participation this year is that we all play an important role in water and energy saving even at our homes."
"Qatargas has an active Corporate Social Responsibility program which is an integral part of our business operations and management strategy. As a key element of this, we are developing a comprehensive greenhouse gas management strategy and have established significant flare reduction, recycling and waste management practices." he added.
James Baldwin, Qatargas Environmental Manager adds: "We are also concerned about biodiversity and are involved in a number of marine conservation projects, including coral restoration and protection and beach clean ups, aimed at supporting turtle conservation. We are actively involved in biodiversity education and awareness programs and support all aspects of environmentally responsible behavior." he concluded.
The stand also offers visitors multiple activities showcasing water and energy conservation tips, recycling and environmental quizzes highlighting the advantage of LNG over other fossil fuels. There is also a kids drawing area and interactive games stressing the need for water and energy use awareness in the home.
Qatargas was established in 1984, is the largest LNG producing company in the world, with an annual LNG production capacity of 42 million tonnes. (QNA)
