Qatar Supports Conference on Palestinian Prisoners

Cairo, May 06 (QNA) - State of Qatar has reiterated its support for the Palestinian cause and for efforts aimed to end the suffering of the Palestinian prisoners. The State of Qatar also expressed support for proposals calling for holding a special session by the International Human Rights Council to discuss the issue of Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli prisons, as well as support for the convening of the International Conference on the Support of Palestinian Prisoners in implementation of the resolutions of Sirte and Baghdad Arab summits held in 2010 and 2012 respectively. This came in a speech delivered today by Qatar's Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative at the Arab League Saif Muqaddam Al Buainain before an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council, held at the level of permanent representatives to discuss the moves required to champion Palestinian prisoners and to seek an end to their suffering under the Israeli occupation. Al Buainain hailed the struggle of the Palestinian people and all detainees in Israeli prisons expressing the hope for their imminent triumph. For his part, Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the Arab League Ambassador Jamal Mohamed Ghunaim who is also the current chairman of the Arab League Council urged in a speech before the emergency meeting, held upon the request of Palestine, international intervention to shed light on the issue of Palestinian and Arab detainees in Israeli prisons and the submitting the issue to the United Nations General Assembly to discuss it in a special session. Ghunaim also demanded the launch of an international political and media campaign to express solidarity with these prisoners, in order to pressure Israel to halt its practices, and improve their living conditions as a prelude to their immediate release.(QNA)
