Qatar Shell Signs Up as Silver Sponsor of QUs Al Bairaq Program
Doha, April 18 (QNA) - The Center for Advanced Materials (CAM) at Qatar University and Qatar Shell yesterday (Wednesday) signed an agreement for Qatar Shell to be the silver sponsor of CAMs successful Al Bairaq World program for schools.
The agreement, in which Qatar Shell agrees to sponsor the program for three years, was signed by QUs Vice President for Research Dr. Hassan Al-Derham and the General Manager of Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center Youssef Saleh, in the presence of QU faculty, staff and industry experts.
Al Bairaq World is the only program of its kind in the Middle East, which is supported by industry and aims to open up the world of science to young people, making it interesting, accessible and relevant to their lives. Pupils take part in research projects and inventions, as well as using scientific photography, documentary film making, twitter, Facebook and other social media to bring the projects alive. To date, more than 1,000 pupils from schools across Qatar have worked with more than 30 researchers from Qatar University
Dr. Al-Derham said: "We are grateful to Qatar Shell for its support of this important project, which has made science so accessible to hundreds of school pupils all over Qatar. We are looking forward to welcoming many of these young people to QU and to seeing them as future leaders of science, industry and technology."
For his part, Youssef Saleh said: "We are proud to sponsor Qatar University’s Al-Bairaq program and honoured to be able to support Qatar University in its efforts to promote scientific studies. I’m excited to see the innovative research and results from the student projects this year, and I urge the students to continue developing their skills in science, research, and critical thinking."
