Qatar Reaffirms Support for Syrian People

Cairo, January 13 (QNA) - The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, HE Dr. Khalid Bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, on Sunday reaffirmed Qatar' keenness to provide all forms of support for the Syrian people as the crisis in Syria worsens. Addressing the emergency Arab Foreign Ministers' meeting, which kicked off Sunday at the Arab League Headquarters here, Dr. Al Attiyah said since the beginning of the crisis, Qatar spared no effort to provide the Syrian people with all forms of assistance. The State of Qatar has provided emergency relief goods worth USD 150 million while extending an airlift to the refugees on Syria-Jordan border, explained Dr. Al Attiyah. He underlined the importance of holding this meeting, which discusses means of supporting Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. The Syrian people is enduring a mass human suffering resulted in a severe and worsening emergency, he said, commending the efforts exerted by neighboring countries to host the refugees and provide all assistance to them. The consequences of a prolonged refugee situation could be dire, he said. Providing support to the Syrian people stems from the international community's moral responsibility to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, Dr. Al Attiyah went on saying. He praised the Turkish role towards the Syrian refugees; expressing hope that today's meeting will best contribute to addressing the humanitarian needs of the Syrian refugees. He also stresses the importance of the forthcoming international donor conference for Syria due in Kuwait later this month. (QNA)
