Qatar Rail Participates in Middle East Rail 2013 Conference

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The Qatar Railways Development Company has participated in the 7th annual Middle East Rail 2013 Conference, held at Dubai World Trade Center. Speaking at the conference, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Rail Eng. Saad Al Muhannadi gave a comprehensive presentation about Qatar Rail and the progress of the project. He said the integrated rail system, to be developed and managed by Qatar Rail, will be an essential part of Qatar s urban infrastructure and to be recognized as one of the most successful, safe and environmentally- friendly railways systems in the world. Briefing the esteemed gathering, Eng. Al Muhannadi said the system will meet the increasing demand of Qatar s dynamic growing population, and will give a huge momentum to the country s modernization drive. On the progress of the project, Eng. Al Muhannadi said, "The delivery of the Qatar Rail Development Program is progressing at a fast pace. It will not only provide the people of Qatar with an efficient and environmentally-friendly travel option but it will bring greater recognition to the State of Qatar within the global transportation industry." He added that the Qatar Rail project will be a catalyst of growth across all the nation s economic segments and will create countless investment and economic opportunities, in addition to becoming a platform for exchange of knowledge and the development of expertise in manufacturing of locomotives and other related fields. In his wide ranging presentation, Eng. Al Muhannadi outlined all the aspects of the Qatar Railways Project and gave details from the planning phase of the project through to completion targets. This year s Middle East Rail conference has 80 free seminars plus a high-level forum, designed to explore the strategy and innovation needed to support the major rail developments. Topics being discussed include: creating revolutionary rail networks in the Middle East, how the Middle East operators increase ridership, innovative ICT solutions for GCC railway projects, trialling alternative ways to fund railway projects and creating a multimodal freight network to connect transport terminals.
