Qatar Proposes Strategy for Arab World's Statistics

Doha , March 19 (QNA) - Head of the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani said Monday that the State of Qatar made a proposition to develop statistical analysis in the Arab world, in the meeting of the Standing Technical Committee for Statistics of the League of Arab Sates held in Doha today. Speaking to journalists on the margins of the meeting, HE QSA) chairman said that Qatar made a proposition that has a similar statistical strategy of the GCC, in order to connect initiatives and Arab statistical projects together. A work team from the Arab member states and experts will be formed to discuss the strategy which his excellence considered "an important initiative on the Arab region's level." His excellence expects that the strategy will be ratified in the first meeting after the conclusion of the working team's effort. On Doha's hosting of the committee's meeting, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani said that the decision was made in consultation with the Arab League's General Secretariat. The meeting will discuss a wide variety of topics relating to statistics whether economic, social, environmental or artistic in addition to discussing the main topic which is building up the Arab world's statistical abilities. The Arab League's Technical Committee for Statistics was formed in 1970. The role of the committee involves exchanging expertise and providing technical consultations to Arab nations in order to build up the region's statistical abilities. (QNA)
