Qatar Participates in the Arab Electricity Ministerial Council in Cairo

Cairo, April 30 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada on Tuesday led Qatar's delegation to the 10th meeting of the Arab Electricity Ministerial Council, which is chaired by Palestine, in a meeting that took place at the Arab League's general secretariat. During the meeting, the ministers discussed a number of issues related to the joint efforts of Arab countries, mainly the comprehensive study for the Arab electricity linkage and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The meeting also focused on the initiatives proposed by Arab expatriate scientists on energy and its alternatives as well as on a study to establish Arab shareholding companies to manufacture main electrical equipment for power plants in order to achieve self-sufficiency among Arab countries. Earlier Monday, HE Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari, president of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented Qatar in the 29th Session of the executive bureau, which is chaired by Egypt and counts Qatar, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Libya and Oman as members. The meeting discussed the progress of the Arab electricity linkage projects and the related study, which is supported by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and the World Bank. The meeting also tackled Sudans initiative to enhance investment opportunities, mainly for the Egyptian-Sudanese electricity linkage projects and the electricity linkage for the eastern Nile countries (Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia).
