Qatar Keen to Promote and Protect Human Rights at National and Regional Level - Diplomat
Geneva, June 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has underlined that its policy of reform and its keenness to promote and protect human rights at national and regional levels, led to the hosting of the UN Human Rights Training Documentation Centre for South West Asia and the Arab Region. The Centre is the result of bilateral cooperation between Qatar and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
This came in a speech delivered by Ms. Noor Ibrahim Al Sada , Second Secretary of Qatar's Permanent delegation to the Geneva-based United Nations Office at the 23rd session of the Human Rights Council, currently being held in Geneva during general debate in the context of the third item.
She explained that the Centre aims to empower the concerned human rights bodies through education and training in order to acquire the necessary expertise to enable them to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights at the regional and national levels through the implementation of the technical cooperation between the Centre and regional mechanisms for human rights.
She also highlighted the importance of coordination within the framework of human rights mechanisms as Qatar hosts on Monday the Arab Conference for the development of the human rights system of the Arab League, which is organized by the Qatar National Human Rights Committee in cooperation with the Arab institutions networks for human rights.
The conference is organized within the framework of reform of the mechanism of action of the Arab League , in accordance with the Doha Declaration issued by the Arab League Council at the summit level at its 24th regular session on March 26, 2013, which called for the convening of a conference of civil society organizations in the Member States in Doha on the development of human rights system in the Arab League, and in recognition of the efforts made by Arab civil society organizations to develop the Arab human rights system, she noted .
She added that a large number of organizations and the regional and international personalities were participating in the conference for the exchange of experiences and best practices.(QNA)
