Qatar Hosts International Conference on Anti-Money Laundering the Financing of Terrorism

Doha, June 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar will host from September 4 to 6 the International Conference on Anti-Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism in which an elite of officials, businessmen, bankers, experts and interested parties will take part. A press release issued today by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the conference, which reflects the major international efforts made by GCC countries in general and Qatar in particular in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, is the first of its kind to be held at the level of GCC, the Middle East and North Africa. It explained that a group of experts and professionals will speak at the conference's nine sessions which will cover anti-money laundering and terrorist financing in the financial sector, Designation Non-financial Businesses and Professions , issues of application and challenges, compliance issues relating to Designation Non-financial Businesses and Professions (DNBPs). The statement said that the conference will also discuss the challenges faced by this sector, and the relationship of financial institutions, Designation Non-financial Businesses and Professions and Risk-Based Approach: Challenges of Compliance and Risk Management. It will also provide an overview of the amendments made to the Forty Recommendations and the Nine Special Recommendations (February 2012) and will deal with the design and implementation of programmes and frameworks for the effective management of operational risks, as well as discussion session themed " What Needs to be Done and the Future Steps". According to the press release, the Conference will host ranking guests including Chairman of Qatar's National Committee on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism HE Sheikh Faisal bin Fahd Al-Thani, Director General of the International Monetary Fund Christine Laggard and GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Al-Zayani. Head of the President of Financial Action Task Force - Middle East and North Africa Dr. Abdurrahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Khalaf, President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali, Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund Dr. Jassim Al-Mannai and President of the Union of Arab Banks Dr. Adnan Ahmed Youssuf.(QNA)
