Qatar Hosts Global Symposium on Judicial and Legal Education
Doha, March 08 (QNA) - Eminent international judges and scholars met their Qatari counterparts in Doha Thursday at the Global Symposium on Judicial and Legal Education, hosted by the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) incorporating the QFC Civil and Commercial Court and QFC Regulatory Tribunal and the Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies.
President of the Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies Dr Mubarak Al Hajri chaired the Symposium and vice-chaired by QICRDC Deputy President of Sir David Keene.
The discussions focused on different global models of education and training for lawyers and judges, and how their application could be of benefit to Qatar.
By developing best international standards in judicial and legal education to strengthen the of rule of law, establish a leading legal and judicial infrastructure and promote the development of a strong and diversified economy, the Global Symposium follows the Qatar National Vision 2030 under the direction of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Dr Mubarak Al Hajri said, "We have heard today of the variety of ways in which judges and lawyers receive continuing education and training in different countries. However, the purpose of the Global Symposium is not to identify a single blueprint for judicial and legal education for Qatar to emulate but instead provide a forum to hear the range of options and possibilities which legal professionals in Qatar may or may not choose to take forward depending on their suitability for this country."
Sir David Keene said, "In line with HH the Emir's vision, developing legal expertise to the highest international standards is key to ensuring that Qatar is a place where international companies can do business with confidence and transparency, and if there are disputes, those disputes are settled effectively and authoritatively in the ways in which the parties want."
The Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies provides post-graduate training of lawyers and the professional training of Qatar's judiciary. The QICDRC is Qatar's world-class dispute resolution centre - hearing commercial disputes from anywhere in the world if the parties choose to do so, together with disputes arising from within the Qatar Financial Centre.
