Qatar Hosts First Astronomy Conference on 10 Feb

Doha, February 02 (QNA) - The Doha International Astronomy Conference will be dedicated to discussing gravitational microlensing, Director Office of Research coordination and Compliance Research Division at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) Dr. Khalid Alsubai said Saturday. The conference is the first of its king in Qatar and the Arab World, it will take place from 10-13 February. Microlensing observations have evolved into a powerful astrophysical tool for studying matters that were inaccessible to science before. Application of microlensing is predominant mainly in the observational study of baryonic dark matter, the structure and kinematics of the Milky Way and other nearby galaxies among other objects. A public lecture by royal astronomer Lord Martin Rees entitled "Planet, Life and the Cosmos," will be the opening session of the conference. Other public activities like Sky-watching and an Astrophotography exhibition will take place as well during the conference. (QNA)
