Qatar Has Modern, Sophisticated Systems to Combat Human Trafficking: Justice Minister

Doha, January 22 (QNA) - Qatar has modern and sophisticated systems through which it can control security matters on combating human trafficking, said HE the Minister of Justice Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem. Speaking after the opening of the third Doha Forum on Combating Human Trafficking, HE the Minister said Qatar has no problem with any number of people arriving to the country, noting that it has the strong legislations needed to combat the phenomenon. The Minister went on to say that, on a practical level, the government tackled the issue of children used in camel competitions and the exploitation of domestic workers. On the international arena, the minister said, the world can testify to Qatar's contributions as one of the first countries to combat the issue, stressing that the phenomenon is extremely rare in Qatar. Reflecting the profitable nature of human trafficking, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem said international criminal organizations involved in human trafficking make the third highest income for organized crime, after drugs and arms trafficking. He added that the problem is closely linked to poverty, stressing the need to combat poverty first and pointing to Islam's combat of the phenomenon long ago, which means Arab and Islamic countries are invested in combating it too.
