Qatar, Fiji Sign Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement
Doha, June 17 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the Republic of Fiji have signed an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, Qatar's Ministry of Economy and Finance said in a statement on Monday.
The agreement aims at avoiding double taxation in both countries and prompting mutual cooperation in various areas that support the economic and investment exchange between them, the statement said.
The agreement was signed by Director of the Public Revenues and Taxes Department Muftah Jassim Al-Muftah on behalf of the government of Qatar, and by Permanent Secretary for Finance Filimone Waqabaca on behalf of the government of Fiji at the Department of Public Revenues and Taxes in the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Doha.
The signing ceremony was attended by the delegation accompanying the Fijian Minister and several officials at the Public Revenues and Taxes Department in the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
With the openness of the world economy, the development of commercial exchange between countries and the increase of the volume of cross-border transactions, the State of Qatar has been seeking to enable the persons and companies carrying on activities in Qatar to deal with the tax burden resulting form imposing tax on the investor's income in double way in the State where he lives ( the State of residence ) and the State where he carries on his activity (the State of source) by way of concluding agreements for the avoidance of double taxation with other countries.
Hence, the number of such agreements that become effective reached (33) agreements in 2009. (QNA)
