Qatar Environment Minister Inaugurates Sixth Gulf Conference for Quality

Doha, January 29 (QNA) - Under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HE the Minister of Environment Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aabboud Al Maadhadi opened today the Sixth Gulf Conference for Quality and the accompanying exhibition. In a speech he gave at the opening session of the conference, which is held under the slogan 'Quality and institutional development', the Minister of Environment said the State of Qatar's hosting of the conference is a confirmation of its commitment to adopting international quality systems, pointing out that Qatar is keen on issuing legislations pertaining to specifications, standards and their compatibility with the GCC and international requirements and on their application. He referred in this regard to the establishment of Qatar Quality Award since 2003, stressing that the government takes measures to implement the law of this award is also working on the issuance of a ministerial resolution to organize registration of bodies eligible for ISO certifications. HE Al Maadhadi stressed the importance of the role played by Gulf Conference for Quality since its inception in 2001 in the dissemination of a culture of quality, adding that importance was reflected in the participation by the private and public sector in this conference. He looked forward that the conference would be a source of benefiting from the experiences and applications of a number of companies and institutions in the GCC sectors of services, education, health, industry and banks, as well as the exchange of experiences. Following the opening session of the one-day conference, HE the Minister of the Environment honored the sponsors of the conference and also opened the exhibition accompanying the conference. For his part, Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Subaie, Chief Executive Officer of Barawa Group, one of the sponsors of the conference, said quality management is extremely important for all institutions, especially institutions that seek to achieve excellence in the implementation of its strategy. Addressing the opening session Al-Subaie said quality management is coupled with several elements, including management, client focus, operational excellence and institutional and human harmonization, explaining that the concept of quality and institutional development focuses on promoting excellence in the implementation of plans and programmes necessary to achieve the aspired performance expectations. He explained that the Barwa group focuses on four themes to implement its strategies, namely operational excellence, which focuses on achieving the added value through the connection and operation of the real estate investment portfolio, achievement of effective governance through the application of best practices at the level of policies, processes, procedures and control systems to improve work efficiency, as well as the sustainable development strategy and the focus on performance. The Barwa group's commitment to the standards of quality management, enabled it to obtain ISO certification last year.(QNA)
