Qatar Confirms Commitment to Support of Arab Voluntary Work
Cairo, July 14 (QNA) - The Eighth Conference of Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities started here today at the Arab League General Secretariat.
The Conference, organized by the Arab League in conjunction with the Arab union for voluntary work, involves a large number of representatives of voluntary organizations in 18 countries.
The Federation's Secretary General Youssuf Ali Kazim underlined in an inaugural speech, he gave on behalf of Chairperson of the Federation HE Sheikha Mona bint Suhaim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the keenness of the Union and member states on supporting and strengthening the Arab voluntary work to help achieve sustainable development in regional countries and to deepen communal participation by young people.
Kazim stressed the importance of this conference, which comes amid radical changes and historical transformations in the Arab world that impressed the world and revolutions, pointing to the importance of concerted efforts to support the march of Arab voluntary work.
He reviewed the efforts of the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities and praised the role of the Arab Volunteer Academy and Zayed's initiative whereby medical caravans have been moving for two months from site to site throughout Egypt to provide medical services for all categories.
Kazim also pointed to the Union's interest in youth development and their skills, adding that the reputation of the Union has become a cause for pride. In its capacity as member of the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities, Doha, along with the United Nations, celebrated the launch of the Arabic version of volunteer work.
The Federation's Secretary General stressed the importance of the official protocol which was signed today in cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program and the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activities, as well as the signing of the Charter of the voluntary work permit in cooperation with the volunteer work society in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the launch of the Arab observatory of volunteer work in collaboration with the charitable reform society in Yemen.
