Geneva, May 27 (QNA) - Qatar has condemned the killing and military operations carried out by Syrian government forces and their militias as well as external parties loyal to the Syrian regime against the city of Al Qusayr, which its population is suffering from an unjust siege and heavy shelling. It termed what the Syrian People is undergoing as a real genocide at the hands of the regime, whose heinous crimes are increasing day after day. Qatar also expressed grave concern that more massacres may occur if such military operations continued. This came in a speech delivered today by HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva, at a session of the ongoing 23rd session of the Human Rights Council titled "Annual Report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights - the interactive dialogue". She added while the acts of barbarism and brutality committed by the Syrian regime continue, the international community failed to fulfill its duties and responsibilities in providing protection to the Syrian people and in achieving their legitimate demands, adding that the international community also failed to deal seriously and decisively with the serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation and to stop the massacres and war crimes committed by the regime in Syria. Qatar's Permanent Representative called for swift action to be taken at all levels in order to protect civilians in Syria and ensure that those responsible for the serious violations of human rights held accountable. On human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani expressed appreciation for the attention of the High Commissioner human rights situation in occupied Palestine, especially violations of the rights of the Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. She called on the international community to show more firmness toward the gross and systematic violations carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities in the Palestinian territories and the occupied Arab territories, particularly with regard to the illegal settlement expansion and provocative policies and practices carried out in the city of Jerusalem. Sheikha Alia also strongly condemned acts of repression and brutal massacres committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, stressing that it is not possible for the international community to remain silent and watching ethnic cleansing and violations of Muslims rights there, forcing them to leave their areas and homes. She also called on the authorities in Myanmar to ensure the protection of and respect for all human Rohingya Muslims and their right to full citizenship and to allow entry of humanitarian aid to them and to work to stop anti-Muslim campaigns in the country and ensure accountability for those responsible for the crimes that have been committed against them. HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani reiterated Qatar's commitment to the support of all Arab just issues and legitimate demands for reform and democracy and good governance, and to provide all forms of support to programs of economic and social development in order to ensure a better future. She also stressed the important role played by Arab women in the Arab Spring revolutions, when they stood side by side with men against injustice, dictatorship and corruption, and yet still contribute effectively to the advancement of Arab societies, despite challenges they face.(END)
