Qatar Charity Ramadan Campaign 1434 AH
Doha, July 03 (QNA) - Qatar Charity will carry out Ramadan projects valued at QAR 35 million for the benefit of 1,766,000 people this year.
450,000 people in Qatar will benefit from the campaign, representing a 120,000 increase on last year.
Beneficiaries of Ramadan projects inside and outside Qatar have increased by more than 600,000 people.
QAR 23,766,000 cost or QC Ramadan projects outside Qatar, benefiting 1,316,000 people in 35 countries.
The Ramadan campaign comes in conjunction with the launch of QCs Everything They Had campaign which aims to raise funds for relief projects for the Syrian people, as well as the development of the poorest and most vulnerable communities in countries around the world in the fields of education, income-generating, water, food and sponsorships.
The focus this year is on fasting Syrian people, particularly the internally displaced and those living as refugees in the neighboring countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, as well as people living in Islamic countries and regions which suffer from special circumstances such as siege, drought or natural disasters such as Palestine and Somalia.
The projects include Iftars, food baskets, financial aid, clothing and other necessities, Zakat al-Fitr, holiday gifts, support for orphans and educational and cultural programs.
As well as an increase in the number of projects and beneficiaries, there will also be a number of new projects launched this Ramadan, such as the Take Your Adornment project, an innovative project that comes in the context of community development, targeting 2,000 workers and people on low-incomes. The project will be carried out throughout the holy month of Ramadan and provides the beneficiaries with all the necessary items to enable them to celebrate this special time along with everyone else. The project is valued at QAR 200,000 and aims to promote the values of culture and civilization among members of society and to create an atmosphere of community cohesion and solidarity.
Another new project is the Fasting Iftar Tables, which will benefit 174,000 fasting people by providing Iftar at 10 communal tables across the state, focusing on single workers and passers-by at a total of over QAR 5.135,000.
Tables will be located at Creek industrial area, Abdullah bin Ali al-Musnad secondary school in the creek, Abdul Aziz School, Ahmad ibn Hanbal School in Al-Najma, Al-Yarmouk in Bin Omran, the Arabic Club in New Satwah / Asiri, Al Saliyah, Al Rayyan, Alshanih and Al Wakra.
Iftar projects include:
Fieh Al-Afiah: which aims to provide Iftars during the holy month for families with limited income via a contract with productive families who will supply meals at an appropriate fee and deliver them to needy families. The project seeks to support 50 productive families and low-income families at a cost of around QAR 320,000, benefiting 7,500 people during the holy month.
Ramadan Monah/Supply: which distributes parcels containing basic items to 1,000 low-income families in various neighborhoods via coupons available at commercial complexes as a gift from QC at the beginning of the holy month at a cost of around QAR 400,000.
Mobile Breakfast: a distribution of snacks prepared by productive families for motorists who were unable to reach their homes before breakfast time. The project aims to benefit around 9,000 people at a total cost of around QAR 365,000.
Supporting communities with breakfast tables: which supports breakfast tables for Arab and Muslim communities residing in Qatar, in order to enhance communication between them in the holy month of Ramadan. The project will benefit around 10,000 fasting people during Ramadan at a cost of more than QAR 215,000.
Watering the Congregation: this program involves the distribution of bottles of water to worshipers while they perform the Taraweeh prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. Around 5,376 people are expected to benefit per day, or 161,280 beneficiaries throughout Ramadan, at a cost of approximately QAR 220,000.
Ramadan Gift: This project involves QC distributing cash to 1,000 households of families with little or no income, as well as widows and divorced women, the sick and orphans, at a cost of QAR 1,111,000.
Zakat al-Fitr: which targets 1,000 families in Qatar with limited income and debts, widows and divorced women, the sick, the elderly and orphans, at a cost of QAR 555,000. One of the objectives of this project is to ease the burden for families registered with QC at Eid, to increase solidarity and compassion by distributing Zakat al-Fitr.
Projects benefitting the family have been expanded to cover the Shahhaniya and Ruwais areas and will also run for a longer period than last year; running throughout the holy month as opposed to covering the last ten-days only and are expected to benefit 24,000 people, at a cost of around QAR 950,000. These projects include a number of interactive activities employing modern techniques of entertainment for children such as competitions and awards.
A special radio program airing the Holy Quran will be available in Qatar, aiming to instill a number of moral values in a systematic and simple fashion and encouraging the public to apply them in practice, at a cost of QAR 183,000. The program will be divided into two parts; one for adults and one for children. The program will air every week on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 pm and is expected to attract around 60,000 listeners.
QC projects outside Qatar cost QAR 23,766,000, benefiting around 1,316,000 people and they include:
Iftar tables project: QC multiplied the funding for this project as compared to last year at a total cost of QAR 10,000,000 in 32 countries across the world and expected to benefit around 719,000 people, representing an increase by 209,000 people as compared to last year.
Distribution of Ramadan food baskets in Yemen benefiting 120,000 people at a cost of QAR 1,500,000, food for 230,000 Syrian refugees at a cost of QAR 766,000
Ramadan projects outside of Qatar cover Palestine, Lebanon, Albania, Morocco, Bangladesh, Syria, Bosnia, Kosovo, Mali, Jordan, Tunisia, Mauritania, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sri Lanka, India, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, Iran, Comoros, Pakistan, Indonesia, Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia and Niger.
The distribution of Zakat al-Fitr is valued at approximately QAR 3,000,000 and is expected to benefit more than 185,000 people in 35 countries.
Other Ramadan projects outside Qatar include cash assistance to needy families and orphans in 33 countries at a cost of QAR 8,500,000 for the benefit 62,000 people.
Ways to Donate
Because Ramadan is the month of giving, charity and good work, in conjunction with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, QC has introduced a number of new methods of donation, allowing donors to choose the method that best suits them, with no need to visit the QC headquarters.
Automated coupons: an electronic device located in major shopping centers will allow people to donate different amounts to different projects when they are paying for their shopping. The cashier will deduct the amount to be donated in cash or by credit card after entering a coupon code that was donated during the shopping process. These devices are currently active in a number of branches of Meera, Shaheen and Spence (The Mall).
The QC website: Visit the QC website at www.qcharity.org, click on the electronic donation button and choose the campaign you would like to donate to and the amount to donate. Instructions are available in both Arabic and English.
Via the mobile phone app Best of my Work (Khairu Amali) which is available on Blackberry and Android and allows people to donate by credit card or SMS once or periodically.
Donation through Doha digital market at www.dohasouq.com, where you will find QC coupons allowing you to choose the area of donation and make a payment by credit card during the shopping process.
Star Donation Points (Oradio): This service is performed through Oradio website. The donor donates the number of points added which is then converted into funds for QC projects in amounts between QAR 25 - 2,000.
Rewards Program at Qatar National Bank: allows bank customers to donate the value of the points earned during their transactions for the benefit of QC projects via Bank POS devices.
Commercial Bank donated prizes: a service that allows Commercial Bank customers to donate the value of the points available to customers which are then converted into a voucher to help fund QC projects.
Donate Dream points: allows customers of Doha Bank to donate their points to QC projects.
Oradio SMS: an integrated system that allows people to donate QAR 50 by sending an SMS to the number 92632, or to 92642 to donate QAR 100.
An ongoing donation by sending a text message to 92060 for a monthly, daily or weekly subscription.
By landline or mobile phone by calling 9002000 to donate QAR 15 to Zakat al-Fitr projects, 2002001 for QAR20 to Iftar projects, 9002002 for QAR 50 to education projects or 9002004 for QAR 100 to orphanages. The call can be repeated as often as possible and the donor can choose which projects to donate to.
Self-service: an electronic device located in major business complexes allows people to donate to areas of their choice in cash in any currency, check, or bank card. The funds or checks are simply placed inside the donation envelopes.
Dirhams project: this allows people to donate their surplus currency (QAR 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75), while shopping in centers and malls, and add the value they wish to donate to the bill. The participating complexes will use a barcode system. The scheme also allows people to donate surplus dirhams on their bank balance. This service is available at Meera, Lulu Hyper Market, Qataria for Consumer Complexes, Mega Mart, Shoprite, the Palace of Food and Quality and the Shaheen Group. Partner banks include Doha Bank, Al Ahli Commercial Bank and Al-Rayyan Bank.
POS: These are devices from banks that allow donations by cards, saving the trouble of looking for ATMs or using cash.
Electronic collection tables: allow people to donate to QC projects through the main collection points by traditional electronic system works regardless of network connection using payment by check, cash or bank card.
Mobile collection: allows you to donate via a tablet device provider using a 3G & WIFI connection and a small printer with a mobile payment device using the same electronic system of the electronic tables.
Zakat Section .. Continuous services
QC is a forerunner among charities in terms of having a dedicated department to calculate Zakat and answer Sharia questions related to it by experts and dedicated team who calculate Zakat: cash, stocks, trade, entrepreneurs, work income, cattle, etc. by telephone, fax, or personal visit. Enquiries are received and dealt with by: a personal visit, telephone or fax. Hours of service are extended during the month of Ramadan when the team operates 8 am- 12 am and until 2am in the last ten days of the holy month.
Everything They Had Campaign
QCs Everything They Had campaign was launched to highlight the suffering of needy communities, showing that, what you see is what they have in terms of shelter, food, sponsorships, education etc.
By presenting an accurate picture of the suffering of these communities the campaign hopes to help donors understand that this is all they have, encouraging them to donate on the understanding that a little money can go a long way.
QC is also seeking to implement a number of large scale projects starting from this Ramadan through partnerships with donors. The projects are as follows:
A relief project for the Syrian people who highlight their suffering, the length of the crisis and the depth of their wounds.
An educational project aimed at enabling 3,000 poor students in 16 countries to continue their education via access to QAR 9,000,000 to cover their tuition fees for one year.
The construction of 10 schools in ten needy and poor communities by raising QAR 6,000,000.
Sponsoring 6,000 orphans for a period of one year in 25 countries by raising QAR 15 million.
Providing food and water for 100,000 people for a period of one month in Syria, Niger, Yemen and Tunisia by raising QAR 30 million.
Sponsorship of 10,000 poor people in 16 countries through small income-generating activities at a cost of QAR 800 per unit and a total cost of QAR 30 million to be raised from Zakat.
Congratulation and Invitation
As we near the holy month of Ramadan, a time when the profits of good deeds, acts of kindness and charity are doubled, QC congratulate Qatari citizens and residents and Muslims in general on this occasion and urge them to support projects inside and outside the country, particularly the projects launched for Ramadan within the framework of the Everything They Had campaign, orphan sponsorship in 25 countries, education of the poor in 16 countries and provision of food and water for the needy in Syria, Yemen, Tunisia and Niger.
