Qatar Charity Launches "Zawaj" or Marriage, Programme to Assist Qatari Youth

Doha , March 20 (QNA) -Qatar Charity (QC) on Wednesday launched Zawaj or marriage programme, to help Qatari youth meet their marriage expenses .The ceremony was held at Aspire Zone on Wednesday in the presence of representatives of the social affairs ministry , the civil society organisations , the programme supporting organs and a number of scholars and businessmen. The programme, to launch 50 wedding parties in its first year, is an extension of a previous initiative to provide free-of charge wedding tents to youths by Asipre in a bid to reduce marriage expenses and help preserve the institution of marriage. The initiative aims to achieve several cultural, educational, social and economic objectives. It will also offer a variety of services to couples and raise awareness about marriage and family responsibilities to avoid divorce. Yusuf Ahmad Al Kuwari, the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity said the launching of this programme reflects the key position of family in the Qatari society fabric and is aimed at assisting the Qatari youths establish a safe and secure families based on firm and strong bases, away from any problems that may threaten their entity and lead to family partition and disintegration since prevention is better than cure. " Zawaj" programme represents a qualitative addition in its field , said Al-kuwari noting meantime that a programme to experience the newly Qatari youth wishing to marry to meet with the men of experience and expertise to get acquainted with their experience in several areas including the social , cultural and economic ones . "This in addition to the other material facilities that would help alleviate costs of marriage especially in the outset of their life", he added. For his part, Executive Manager for Local Development at QC Ibrahim Said Al-Mohannadi said the programme will help lighten the burden of couples faced with high marriage costs in the country. He added that marriage programme would be made interesting with the Moayasha (Cohabitation) project that accompanies it. Said Al-Mohannadi further said that the cohabitation project would provide guidance to couples and show them proper ways to lead a happy family life. The programme is open to Qatari citizens wishing to benefit from the campaign. The couple must also accept to attend the accompanying awareness programme. It is worth to mention that Qatar Charity is a non-governmental organization, founded in 1992 for the development of the Qatari society and other needy communities. It works in the fields of sustainable development, reducing poverty, and disaster relief and emergency response. QC endeavors to serve all needy people and communities regardless of their color, sex, religion, race or nationality. It has been in a consultative status with the UN ECOSOC since 1997. It is also a member of the General Founding Conference of the Arab Network for NGOs in Cairo since 1999. Since inception, QC passed through important milestones that can be summarized as follows: stage of evolution, stage of expansion and proliferation, stage of review and evaluation, and the stage of rationalization and redeployment.
