Qatar Charity Launches QR 5 Million Development Projects in Burkina Faso

Doha, January 06 (QNA) - As part of its plan for 2013, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a package of new development projects in Burkina Faso with total value of over QR 5 million. With these projects QC seeks to contribute to achieving the goals of the 2011 - 2015 growth and sustainable development strategy adopted by the Government of Burkina Faso, the most important of which is generalization of primary education, health-care coverage, and providing safe drinking water, in addition to improving the income of citizens, through the implementation of a range of development projects and enabling impoverished people to get interest-free loans. QC has recently launched the second phase of the economic empowerment project, which targets two municipalities in the African country. During this phase a range of development projects will implemented in the areas of health, education and income-generating. During the launch ceremony of Phase Two of the economic empowerment project QC s Director of the Department of Social Welfare Jassim Abdullah Al Jassim said has the project brought several outputs that contributed to the improvement of the economic and social situation for some families. He explained that the first phase included interest-free loans for 20 feminist associations, distribution of 56 cows for needy families, rehabilitation of 10 rice cultivation hectares of land, installation of 4 batteries charge stations, the implantation of more than 1000 fruit trees, seeding 19 hectares of beans and corn, the provision of two tractors to help people plow their land. Al-Jassim stressed Qatar Charity's commitment to expand its activities in the coming years in order to support the development process in the African country for achieving the Millennium Development Goals of reducing poverty. Charity has been working in Burkina Faso for more than ten years through its local partners there. (QNA)
