Qatar Charity Donates $ 2 Mn. to Assist Myanmar Muslims
Doha, April 30 (QNA) - Qatar Charity signed here Tuesday a partnership and cooperation agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Affairs (UNHCR) to assist the Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine state, Myanmar.
According to this agreement, Qatar Charity would donate a financial donation estimated at Qrs 7,300,000 ($2 million) ,directly benefiting about 10,000 displaced persons.
Qatar Charity donation comes within its humanitarian assistance that has been provided by the UNHCR to the displaced in a value of $ 17 million for the shelter projects.
The UNHCR regional representative for GCC states Omran Ridha signed on behalf of his side while the Qatar Charity's chief Executive officer,Yusuf Bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari signed for the charity.
Following the ceremony signing ,Qatar Charity CEO said in a press conference that the financial donation will be used in providing several services to the displaced families in Rakhine state including the construction of temporary shelter centers with the value of $1,000000 and infrastructures of a $ a half million in order to benefit from in the emergency cases in Rakhine state.
Al-Kuwari affirmed Qatar Charity's keenness to enhance partnerships with the international humanitarian organizations to access the humanitarian assistance to the refugees and displaced persons in the world especially in the emergencies conditions for example the case of Myanmar.
He praised cooperation with the UNHCR in the past period in which Qatar Charity provided assistance to the Rohingya Muslims who lived in very difficult conditions requiring assistances in all walks of life.
The signing of the cooperation agreement recognizing the importance of the close cooperation with the organizations to provide services to Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and it comes into force after signing by the two parties, he added.
In light of this agreement ,Qatar Charity in collaboration with the UNHCR will prepare the reports relating the financial donation for the humanitarian assistance .
For his part, Ridha announced that the UNHCR would work hand in hand with Qatar Charity to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced people in Rakhine state,indicating that this reflects the explicitly continuation of the humanitarian commitment made by the Qatar Charity and it considered a real international solidarity.
He noted that the UNHCR will implement the agreement through constructing 1360 residential units fro the displaced people ,including two buildings for several purposes in addition to 11 polyclinics,115 kitchens and 18 stores.
Elaborating he pointed out that about 115,000 persons fled Myanmar during months of June and October 2012, regarding the ongoing violence in Rakhine state,where the UNHCR works closely with the concerned circles to bring about a long-term solution, saying that generous contribution made by Qatar Charity will meet the needs of 10,000 displaced persons.(QNA)
