Qatar Airways Announces 150 New Undergraduate and Graduate Places Qatari Students
Doha, February 25 (QNA) - Qatar Airways has announced its biggest ever recruitment drive for Qatari students with 150 places on offer during the 2013/2014 academic year.
A brand new Graduate Career Rotation Programme is being introduced by the national airline with up to 50 new jobs available for graduates. In addition, the carrier is offering 50 internships plus 50 scholarships for undergraduates, the Company said in a statement.
All three programmes are administered by Qatar Airways Nationalisation Department.
The announcement was made by Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker during a speech at the 6th annual Qatari Student Career Fair in London, organised by the State of Qatar s Embassy in the UK.
Qatar Airways was among nine Qatari organisations present, exhibiting and running onsite interviews, with the young hopefuls eager to carve a career with leading local companies.
"As a young country, Qatar has made a significant impact internationally in different fields," he told students and dignitaries present at a dinner ahead of the day-long Career Fair. The event attracted over 150 students.
"Each one of you from Qatar should take pride in our beloved nation which is why so much resource and faith is being put into the youth of today as the leaders of tomorrow. I cannot stress enough the importance that education plays in our lives and helps shape our future.
"At Qatar Airways, we have injected a great amount of energy in developing our scholarship programmes for Qatari students both in our country and overseas, including here in the UK.
"I am delighted to announce exciting initiatives that we at Qatar Airways have embarked on, including further increasing our scholarship and internship talent base with 100 places on offer.
"Beginning this year, we are also introducing an exciting new Graduate Career Rotation Programme, where students, upon graduation spend 22 months as employees working on six assignments with different departments across the organisation, including four months in one of our selected international outstations." With 23 different disciplines available within the airline group from airport operations, engineering, revenue management and sales to commercial, marketing and communications, Qatar Airways offers a diverse mix of career fields.
Al Baker stressed that the Graduate Rotation Programme, for which 50 places are being offered, allows graduates to get a flavour of the airline business before deciding which career path to follow within the industry.
Qatar Airways is one of the country s biggest employers, continuing its drive to recruit young Qatari students as part of the country s determined efforts to nurture young nationals to become leaders in their field with local organisations.
In addition, the Nationalisation Department has Masters Degree placements for selected Qatari students at New Zealand s prestigious Massey University. The programme helps students enhance their skills working with a competitive airline that Qatar Airways is.
Added Al Baker: "We have a career path that is second to none with a world class airline that has reached the pinnacle of the global airline industry.
"Students now have a range of exciting programmes aimed at helping them find their ideal position in the Qatar Airways organisation, a company that through its nationalisation department is building a future on the talents of young people from across Qatar."
Al Baker went on to say that opportunities were enormous. With the brand new Hamad International Airport, which Qatar Airways will manage and operate, opening in Doha this year and the national airline launching an exciting array of new routes during 2013, the aggressive expansion by the carrier is a strong magnet to attract new recruits, he said.
The London event saw a strong team from Qatar Airways Nationalisation Department on hand to engage in dialogue with the young hopefuls, holding onsite interviews at a dedicated stand, encouraging them to apply for the global carrier s flagship talent-nurturing programmes.
Nationalisation Vice President Dr. Kholode Al-Obaidli delivered a presentation on the airline, the programmes on offer and the exciting benefits students can avail if they are chosen to join the national carrier.
"With so much growth over the years and the years to come by a forward-thinking airline that is flying around the world, Qatar Airways has fantastic opportunities for our young students," she said.
"We were delighted with the attendance and quality of student applications which just demonstrated how Qatar Airways has generated great awareness and following of its global brand with the student community."
